The Master of Education (MEd) in Education Leadership is a graduate program designed to equip aspiring educational leaders with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to navigate the complexities of modern educational institutions. With a focus on leadership theory, educational policy, instructional leadership, and organizational management, this program is designed to prepare graduates to drive positive change and foster innovation within educational settings.

No. The College of Idaho’s M.Ed. program is a dynamic, district-embedded program designed to upskill current and aspiring school administrators within the district.

What will I learn in the M.Ed. program?

The College of Idaho’s M.Ed. program covers the following core areas:

  • Leadership Development: Cultivate leadership capabilities through the exploration of various leadership theories, frameworks, and practices tailored to the education sector.
  • Strategic Planning and Management: Provide students with the skills to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with educational goals, leveraging resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Instructional Leadership: Equip educators with the ability to lead curriculum development, assessment strategies, and instructional practices that promote student achievement and success.
  • Policy Analysis and Advocacy: Enable students to analyze educational policies critically, advocate for equitable practices, and influence policy decisions at local, state, and national levels.
  • Ethical and Equity Considerations: Foster a deep understanding of ethical principles and equity issues in education, empowering leaders to create inclusive, equitable, and culturally and linguistically responsive learning environments.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Teach students to collect, analyze, and utilize data to inform decision-making processes, driving continuous improvement and accountability, including statewide and local assessments as well as academic and linguistic assessments.

Can I complete the M.Ed. program online?

Yes and no. The College’s M.Ed. program is a hybrid program. Approximately half of your courses will be online; however, the other half of your courses will be taught in-person at a location within your school district. This flexibility is particularly useful for working educators who want to pursue the degree while maintaining their current jobs.

What is the duration of the M.Ed. program?

The College’s M.Ed. program is 32 credits or 11 courses. Students take two courses per term over four terms and three courses in the fifth term, completing the degree in just 16 months. Our M.Ed. program launches a new cohort each summer.

Can I afford to pursue a master’s degree?

The College of Idaho’s M.Ed. program is one of the most affordable educational leadership-related degree programs in the country. Our team took great care in crafting a rigorous, high-quality program, but with cost in mind, to ensure that its program is accessible. As a graduate degree program, financial aid is available, and The College of Idaho offers scholarships for eligible students.

Since its founding in 1891, The College of Idaho has embodied the mantra of its founding President William Judson Boone: “Let them come, let them all come, and we will see what they can do.” The College therefore focuses on affordability for all of its programs to ensure cost isn’t a barrier to access to an excellent education.
