About the Heritage Scholar Program

The Heritage Scholar Program will provide a $20,300 scholarship for four years at The College of Idaho to highly qualified students with exceptional intellectual abilities. Scholarship recipients are expected to demonstrate both the academic and personal qualities that will allow them to flourish in our rigorous but community-oriented academic environment, and in the challenging world beyond college.

Heritage Scholar Requirements

Heritage Scholars must:

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.25
  • Complete 20 hours of community service or campus activities each month
  • Participate in Heritage Scholar Program activities

To Become a Heritage Scholar

Heritage scholar applicants will be reviewed and evaluated based on:

  • the strength and content of the applicant’s curriculum in high school
  • extra-curricular Involvement
  • service or community projects
  • essay
  • interview

The C of I selects 8-10 new Heritage scholars each Fall, and there is always significant interest In the program. Although there are no specific deadlines, applicants are encouraged to submit applications no later than February 1. Winners will be announced in early March.

To be eligible for the Heritage Scholar Program applicants must:

  • Have a 3.85 GPA at the end of the sixth semester in high school and a minimum of a 31 ACT composite or a minimum of a 1380 on the SAT. (GPA is based on a 4.0 scale, and SAT scores are based on the critical reading and math sections of the SAT.)
  • Complete an application for admission and be accepted to The College of Idaho.
  • Complete a Heritage Scholarship application essay of 750-1,000 words, describing how a specific personal experience from the last few years has been beneficial to the applicant and to his or her community.
  • Complete a FAFSA form and submit the form to The College of Idaho by no later than March 1st.
  • Be invited to interview by the Heritage Scholar Program Committee.
