Maintaining good health and developing a healthy lifestyle are pre- requisites for a successful college experience--and for life after college.
Health implies much more than simply the absence of disease. Today health is perceived as the ability to function with vigor and to live life actively, energetically, and fully. It encompasses optimal levels of physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, interpersonal, social, and environmental well-being. It requires knowledge and effort to make healthy choices throughout life.
Before coming to college your family provided a healthful environment and most likely monitored your nutritional and sleep requirements. In the event of illness or injury they were available to offer care, concern, and advice.
Now that you are living away from home, you will have to assume responsibility for your health, and for making choices that either enhance or diminish your over all health status.
The Campus Nurse is available to answer questions about your health and can help you to develop strategies, which can lead to a more healthful lifestyle. When ill, she can recommend self-care measures and monitor your progress. When needed she will arrange for an appointment with a local physician.
The Campus Nurse is a member of the C of I Faculty-Staff "team" which strives to make each student's experience here enjoyable and successful.
Confidentiality
All information discussed in the nurse's office is CONFIDENTIAL and will not be disclosed without your permission. The exceptions to confidentiality are that Idaho Sate Law requires that health professionals must report limited information if there is a reasonable suspicion that a minor, handicapped, or elderly person is being abused; if ordered to do so in a court of law; or if a person presents a serious danger of harming themselves or others.
