The College of Idaho men's soccer team lost for the first time to Northwest University in a decade, falling 2-0 in Kirkland, Wash.
With the loss, the Coyotes (6-8-1, 6-6-1 CCC) were eliminated from the postseason race with one match to play. It marked the first time that the Eagles had defeated the Yotes since 1999 - spanning 20 games.
In a physical game that featured seven cards and 17 fouls, it was the Eagles (9-5-4, 7-5-2 CCC) that jumped on the scoreboard in the 37th minute, as Luke Fischer jumped on a rebound of a Nate Jung shot that was not collected by C of I keeper Aaron Reynolds, and blasted home a ball from ten-yards out to give NU the game-winner.
Northwest would add to their lead in the 66th minute, as Derek Woolsey flicked home a Brandon Screen corner kick, padding the lead, as the Eagles extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches.
NU held a 22-15 edge in total shots in handing the Yotes their fourth-straight defeat and their sixth loss in seven matches. The Eagles can clinch the No. 3 seed in the Cascade Conference Tournament with an Oregon Tech tie or loss in one of their final two matches.
The Coyotes conclude the season tomorrow afternoon with a 2 p.m. match at Evergreen State.
