The summer program, called The College of Idaho Scholars Program, just completed its second year. It’s one of multiple undergraduate research opportunities available during the year in scientific fields at the College.
When Dr. Rochelle Johnson interviewed for a position at The College of Idaho in 1999, she hoped to work at a school where she could teach American literature, develop environmental studies courses, and spend time in the outdoors. Check, check, and check.

Mansfield put away his gradebook in 2021 after more than three decades teaching at the College. Only two employees, Marty Holly (1981) and Kerry Hunter (1988), have been at the College longer than Mansfield and history professor Mark Smith, who both started at the College in September 1989.
Otero’s work has shown enough promise that she’s caught the attention of a national foundation that is trying to topple something considered among the top priorities in medicine.
The conference featured students from 65 different colleges and universities from 25 different states, including UCLA, Stanford, NYU, and Cal-Berkeley. There was a total of 25 awards handed out, three of which went to students from the College.
The project, titled, “She Codes for Peace – Girl Empowerment through Coding” is about using computer coding to connect young women, in Angola and beyond, so they can learn what is possible.
