Academic Affairs

The Office of Academic Affairs coordinates all academic programs offered at the College. Through collaborative efforts, the Dean of the Faculty of the undergraduate college and the Dean of Graduate Studies help our undergraduate and graduate programs focus on student learning and success. These offices are devoted to ensuring student academics are a properly managed priority on a campus that truly values academic rigor.

Institutional Review Board

The College of Idaho is concerned with the protection of the rights and welfare of human participants in all research conducted by faculty, staff and students and by outside entities using College faculty, staff, and students as part of their research. This concern, which is the primary purpose of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), includes the protection of the rights to privacy, the need for informed consent, protection and confidentiality of data, protection against physical, psychological, social, or economic risks and an appropriate demonstration of benefit to risk ratio.

The IRB will ensure that all human research conducted by The College of Idaho faculty, staff, and students will follow the ethical principles described in The Belmont Report and will comply with the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects, 45 CFR (The Common Rule).

By meeting these requirements, the IRB will assist faculty and student researchers, staff, administrative personnel, and other involved college community members in avoiding errors or oversights that can result in justifiable complaints and actions, including lawsuits against the college and/or anyone acting in a college sanctioned capacity.

Faculty Grant Resources

At the center of the College’s mission is the concept of the teacher-scholar — a gifted, dedicated teacher whose work in the classroom is enhanced by deep professional training and an ongoing commitment to scholarship.

The College believes that faculty growth, development and research requires continuous investment and therefore has established a fund to spur research by reinvesting recovered indirect costs. This fund supports summer grant-writing stipends, sabbatical research, student-faculty collaboration, and other scholarly activities.

If your grant proposal (or preproposal) requires the College to commit to or support the work in any way, the proposal requires approval before it can be submitted. Examples of College commitment include signature by an authorized organizational representative or other official, funds administered by the College, commitment of time and effort (yours or students’ or employees’), equipment (including computers) or space, development of a course, College matching funds or in-kind contributions, and other conditions.

Internal routing forms for authorization and submission of proposals and other supporting documents are available below.  The main areas of emphasis include effort reporting, responsible conduct of research (RCR), financial conflict of interest (FCOI) for federally funded research, government notices concerning research policies and grants, and general information about the College for grant applications.

The forms needed for grant approval and submission and the signatures that are required vary from grant to grant. In general, all grants require review by the Grants Office and VP-level approvals and institutional grants also require approval by the President.  Please note that all institutional data included in grant applications must be approved or generated by the College’s Office of Institutional Research.

The Grant Proposal Authorization Form (AF) starts the grant application process and helps identify potential alternative sources of support. The AF helps plan for any impacts of the proposed grant on institutional resources. It also serves as the Short Form for certain types of fellowship and grant applications (details on form).

The Grant Proposal Submission Form (PSF) requires the approval of the VPAA, VPFO, and for institutional grants, signature of the College President. The PSF also includes assurances regarding human subjects, animal use, biohazards, conflict of interest, and other concerns.
