The College of Idaho offers two majors in accounting: Accounting 124 (BA) and Accounting 150 (BS).
An Accounting 124 (BA) major is completed in 124 credits and equips students with essential financial reporting and business fundamentals skills. Courses such as Financial and Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, and Business Law build a strong foundation, while hands-on experience with accounting information systems or data analytics, and a capstone project prepare graduates for successful careers in accounting and finance. Accountants have versatile skills that are essential across a wide range of industries. Graduates can work in corporate accounting, government, nonprofit organizations, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, etc.
The Accounting 150 (BS) major is completed in 150 credit and is designed for students to meet the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam eligibility requirements for the State of Idaho. This CPA preparation-focused accounting major provides students with in-depth knowledge and skills essential for the CPA exam and professional practice. Core courses in financial reporting, auditing, tax, and managerial accounting, combined with hands-on experience with an accounting internship prepare graduates for careers in public accounting, corporate finance, and beyond.
While at the College, Jackson Nassir ’25, a double major in art and business administration, created a three-story art installation in Cruzen-Murray Library, exploring how the things on this earth are filled with life, and how they interact with unliving elements. His piece takes viewers on a journey, symbolizing the release of the soul – a beautiful death.
“Our study abroad trip wasn’t just about lectures and assignments,” says Dr. Andrew Ellestad (Business & Accounting). “It was about students bargaining in local markets, chatting with business owners over bubble tea, and finding their way through bustling streets together. Our students grew from hesitant travelers to confident global explorers who could navigate subway systems and cultural differences with equal ease.”
I chose The College of Idaho due to its innovative curriculum, which allowed me to personalize my course of study. Additionally, the College provides great mentorship opportunities through the major programs. My major advisors contributed to my academic experience by getting to know me personally and assisting me with internships and other opportunities outside of the classroom.
B.A. in Accounting 150 and Political Economy with minors in Communication, and Natural Sciences and a specialization in Finance.
I chose to be a Yote because of the close campus culture and spirit that I felt on my initial campus visit and still feel as a senior at the College. Students support each other in their extracurricular activities and make the College a fun experience for anyone who chooses to attend. One of my favorite experiences is Homecoming weekend. Getting to meet former Yotes and make new friends is something I look forward to each year.

The College did an amazing job preparing me by providing me the tools on HOW to think/analyze/assess and not WHAT to think. Accounting has enabled me to learn a LOT of different industries and how budget/accounting/finance heavily influence each other - from airline cargo, to grocery, to wildlife conservation, and finally, child welfare. I'm making a difference each day.
B.A. in Accounting and Business Administration. Deputy Director of Operations at the Idaho Division of Health & Welfare. Treasurer, Association of Government Accountants.
