Imagine an education where you’ll dive into every unconventional pursuit, translate abstract ideas into concrete results and never feel financially held back. The College makes this a reality: We consider all students who are admitted to the College for merit-based, need-based and talent-based scholarships.
Merit scholarships are awarded to new freshmen based on their weighted cumulative high school GPA as presented on their official high school transcript. New transfer student merit awards are determined by the cumulative GPA from all post-secondary institutions attended. Should a transfer student have 27 or fewer college credits, they will be considered a transfer freshman and their merit award will be determined by their weighted cumulative high school GPA.
First-Year Students
For first-year students who have never attended college, merit aid is awarded based on cumulative high school GPA. The award is guaranteed as long as the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress and is subject to change. As a residential liberal arts college, The College of Idaho maintains a three-year residency requirement for all incoming freshman students. It is proven that living on-campus leads to enhanced academic success, ensures heightened access to a full range of co-curricular opportunities, and contributes to a student’s leadership development. In recognition of this requirement, freshman students receive a $3,000 “on-campus residency grant” as part of their financial aid package. Students must be living on-campus or in College-owned housing in order to access this grant.
The table below indicates the high school grade point average a freshman applicant must achieve and their corresponding merit award.

A teaching legend at the College, Wolfe received his law degree from the University of Vienna. After fleeing his native Austria on the eve of World War II in 1939, he served as an in-residence scholar in the Department of Political Science at Yale University before coming to The College of Idaho. Over a 24-year period, many of Wolfe’s students attended outstanding law schools and graduate schools, a tradition that still holds today. Dr. Wolfe also founded Model UN at The College of Idaho. These scholarships are generously funded and sustained by alumni who honor Wolfe’s legacy through the financial support of current College students.
One of the requirements I was looking for in schools was that there needed to be a music program that I could participate in, even if I was not a major or minor. At CofI, I have been able to do just that and perform at football and basketball games, concerts and operas. I can still have my passion for music while exploring new passions like rock climbing and writing.
B.A in History and Environmental Studies with a minor in Communication.
The College of Idaho grabbed my attention when I was first looking to transfer from a large university. I knew that when I came to visit and walked around campus it felt like where I needed to be. I was able to meet the presidents of the College and they were down to earth and willing to talk to us about anything. Not long after the visit, I knew I was going to become a Yote.

The community of the College is truly something special. From the students to the professors and faculty, it feels like everyone around the College is so welcoming and caring about you and your well-being and success. The College also offered the ability to achieve my dream of playing collegiate athletics and studying math and physics – the best of both worlds.

One of the moments that stands out the most was when my admission counselor called me and told me I was awarded additional scholarships. I was already accepted into the school and I was given merit and other scholarships, but the only thing holding me back was still money. Before this moment I did not know if I would actually attend due to financial circumstances. This was the moment that I realized that I could attend my number one school because of these scholarships.

Throughout my life, the importance of education has always been stressed to me. With that being said, I was also financially responsible for funding my education, as my single mom didn’t have many resources to assist with my school expense. I worked two jobs and applied for many scholarships. Receiving scholarships from The College of Idaho made attending my dream school possible.
