Our four-year teaching certification program emphasizes preparing educators for Idaho schools. It encompasses undergraduate study toward completion of a BA degree and an internship semester of student teaching to complete remaining licensure requirements.
The College of Idaho has a proud tradition of producing quality educators. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in teaching and school administration, earning countless awards, grants, and recognition for their outstanding work as educators in Idaho and around the world. Education majors may also go on to earn graduate and doctoral degrees and teach at the college level.
Alex Zamora ’06, a co-superintendent and principal, earns the Treasure Valley YMCA’s highest honor in recognition of his compassion and commitment to serving the Wilder, Idaho community.
Each summer, College faculty and students partner with the Wood River YMCA to bolster educational outcomes for children in Idaho’s Wood River Valley. Despite being a popular recreational, tourist-heavy destination, many families struggle economically, often resulting in their children falling behind their peers academically.
If I had to choose one word to describe my experience at the College, it would be unforgettable. From the meaningful connections I formed with others to the profound exploration of what it truly means to become an educator, this journey has been deeply transformative. I’ve been continually inspired by the unwavering dedication of my professors. Their genuine care, integrity, and passion for teaching have shown me what it means to educate with humanity and respect – sparking critical thinking, compassion, and a drive to make a difference. B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies & Elementary Precertification with minors in Health Promotion, Psychology Development & Education, and Spanish, and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).
Pursuing a music education degree within a liberal arts setting was so much more than just learning notes and rhythms. The College’s focus on expecting critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability prepared me well not only for my career as a music educator, but for a lifetime of intellectual growth that took me far beyond my undergraduate goals.

Jason Hunt ’13 is a dedicated English teacher at a prestigious high school in California. He has hosted renowned authors like Karen Russell and Lauren Groff in his classroom and is currently collaborating with Stanford University’s Drama Department to teach workshops on Shakespeare to his students.
