- The College of Idaho kickstarted the holiday season with our 5th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting event! Students, alumni and community members alike gathered in front of Sterry Hall for some hot drinks, tasty holiday sweets, and beautiful carols sung by our Alumni & Friends Choir and our Major Sixth Vocal Ensemble. - We’ve had a number of alumni visit campus again in recent weeks, and we’ve been lucky enough to reach them in the middle of their busy schedules to find out more about the various projects they’ve been working on! Here, we catch up with Dr. Robert Hamilton ’08, the co-founder of Neural Analytics Inc.
- Here, we catch up with Alan Barber ’06, who went on to start a biotech and pharma softwar services company in Idaho Falls following his time as a Yote.
- And here, we catch up with Bret Arsenault ’87, Corporate Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Microsoft, who also visited campus for last month’s MAPS colloquium. Hear all three talk about their experiences since graduating from C of I, from groundbreaking biomedical research to the cutting edge of cybersecurity.
- Coyote Athletics Roundup: The Yotes men’s basketball team went on a winning streak, picking up victories against Trinity International, Vanguard University, and Oregon Tech. However, the streak was snapped against Southern Oregon. Senior Aziz Leeks earned Red Lion-Cascade Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the second straight week…In women’s basketball action, the Lady Yotes picked up an upset win against Oregon Tech, but struggled against Southern Oregon, Lewis-Clark State, and Montana Western…Following their run at the NAIA Quarterfinals, several members of the Yotes volleyball team earned honors for their play. Jackie van Vilet was one of 14 players named to the NAIA National Championships All-Tournament Team, Marija Djonovic became the third first-team All-American in the program’s history on the AVCA-NAIA All-America team, and Taylor Alexander was the sixth in program history to be named to the second All-America team…Men’s swimming and diving had a record setting meet at the Husky Invitational, with Dylan Osborne and Jon Jennings breaking the school record in the 50-yard freestyle and two relay teams establishing new school records in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley. On the women’s side, four Lady Yotes established new NAIA qualifying marks, with Caroline Yannelli and Maddy Kelly establishing school records in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly respectively.
- Faculty and Staff Notes: Journalism professor Alan Minskoff and his wife, Royanne, received recognition on Idaho Philanthropy Day as honorees for Outstanding Adult Philanthropist thanks to their joint effort in chairing the campaign to earn funding for the Idaho Shakespeare Festival Amphitheatre…Political economy professor Jasper LiCalzi provided commentary on Idaho’s low tax rate in an article appearing in the Spokesman-Review, the Sun Herald, the Idaho Statesman, and the San Francisco Chronicle…Director of Residence Life Jen Nelson spoke with U.S. News and Report about the College’s accommodations for international students during the winter break.
- Alumni News and Notes: Emily Hawgood ’17 placed second in the Ultra Trail Cape Town (UTCT) 65 kilometer race in the women’s open category. A native of Zimbabwe and a cross country standout during her time as a Yote, Hawgood completed the challenging route in 8 hours, 34 minutes and 20 seconds, just 13 minutes behind the eventual winner…Megan Ronk ’01 is departing from her position as Idaho Department of Commerce Director and moving into a new role at Idaho Power as its director of business innovation and development. She will assume her new position on Jan. 2.
- The December matching gift starts today! From now until December 31st, our generous Board of Trustees has pledged to continue the tradition of matching every gift made to The College of Idaho up to $250, for an overall match of up to $150,000!
