- Also featured as part of our Student Research Conference was the 2018 Senior Art Exhibition, “As Above, So Below,” featuring the artwork of seven senior art students — Casey Alcoser, Melanie Miller, Paula Schneider, Barbara Downs, Quin McLaughlin, Jordan Scogin and Emily Hansen. The exhibit will remain available for viewing at the Rosenthal Gallery of Art through the end of the spring semester. In the meantime, check out this gallery from the exhibition’s opening day!
- C of I was pleased to host five deeply experienced media professionals for “Mediated Lives: The Future of Media in American Society” on May 2. We recorded the full panel, which examined the state of the media realm in the wake of “fake news,” anti-media attitudes and the viral spread of information through social media and the internet. - Our co-presidents continue earning local attention, this time from our friends at the Boise Weekly! C of I alumna Skylar Barsanti ’14 sat down with Jim Everett and Doug Brigham for an interview, covering everything from their future plans for the College to their sharing of the traditional President’s House. - The Idaho-Press Tribune sat down with one of our student athletes, freshman Bella Torres, who shared her inspiring story of battling back an eating disorder to become a champion high school runner, and now part of the C of I’s cross country and track and field squad. Read Bella’s story here!
- The Idaho Press-Tribune also profiled two additions to C of I’s football team — Shiloh Keo and Nate Potter, Idaho players who went on to successful careers in the NFL and have returned to help bring the Yotes to the next level. Read about their journeys into coaching here!
- Speaking of coaching transitions, the C of I men’s basketball team isn’t the only squad with a new head coach — Janis Beal officially signed on as the women’s basketball head coach. Beal previously led Powell, Wyoming’s Northwest College for nine successful seasons, including a 25-win season in 2017-18 with three trips to the NJCAA Regions IX semifinals in 2013, 3015 and 2018. - 2018’s Commencement ceremony is right around the corner! Join us at 10 a.m. on the C of I’s campus to congratulate the Class of 2018 as they receive their diplomas. Begin planning for the big day by checking out all the information you need here!
- Coyote Athletics Roundup: In their first season as a varsity sport, men’s lacrosse captured the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League Championship in overtime against the Montana Grizzlies. Their victory sends the Yotes to the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 7-12, where they will enter the tournament as the No. 14 seed. A crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the team’s travel costs was successful, raising more than $7,000 in just over 24 hours. Good luck to the Yotes in SLC!...Following a split series against Corban University, the men’s baseball team is now 12-35 on the season. Meanwhile, Lady Yotes softball sits at 21-23 following splits against the University of Providence and Northwest Christian…Chris Carew earned All-CCC honors at the 2018 Cascade Conference Men’s Golf Championships, where the men’s team finished fourth in the team standings. On the women’s side, Natalie Mullins earned All-CCC honors for the second-straight year, with the team finishing third overall at the CCC Championships…At the 2018 Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships for track and field, Brooks Ney placed fifth overall in the decathlon, while three Lady Yotes earned Top-8 finishes in the heptathlon, including Kiersten Lancaster, Payton Durocher and Allison Cossins. A week later, Hayley Morse continued a record-setting season at the Boise State Border Clash, setting a school-record in the hammer throw and shot put and a personal best in the discus. Her results earned the senior Red Lion-Cascade Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors for the ninth time in her career.
- Faculty and Staff News: C of I Professor Emeritus Dr. Louie Attebery ’50 was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who, recognizing him as a leader in the field of education and academic administration. - Alumni News and Notes: Tyler J. Grigsby ’08 has been promoted to controller/director of finance and accounting at Fisher’s Technology, where he has served as finance and accounting manager since 2016. He previously worked at Micron Technology in budgeting, capital markets, investment management, risk management and cash management…Chuck Winder ’68 is running for reelection for the District 20 Senate Seat in the Idaho State Legislature. Winder has served in the District 20 seat since 2012 and previously represented District 14 from 2008-2012. He was a trustee at the C of I for 12 years.
