Campus Safety

The College of Idaho is committed to creating a safe and secure environment. But it’s not something we can do alone. Preventing crime, identifying risks, and solving problems take help from everyone. Join us in keeping our community safe.

Campus Safety is located in Hendren Hall and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. An on-duty officer can be reached at 208-459-5151. This number, as well as the number for Student Advocates, can be found on the back of College identification cards.

Our officers provide several services to our campus community, including:
  • First aid
  • Welfare checks
  • Routine patrols
  • Parking enforcement
  • Escorts
  • Jump starting vehicles
  • Unlocking vehicles
  • Creating/maintaining campus ID cards
  • Issuing parking permits
  • Locking/unlocking buildings

Campus safety has a limited number of vehicles that can be checked out for college-related activities on a first-come, first-serve basis. Department head approval is needed before vehicle reservations can be made.  To request a vehicle, fill out this form.

We also offer free awareness programs! Topics include fire safety, self-defense, alcohol awareness, and more. Simply stop by our office or give us a call to schedule a program.

We are here for our community 24/7. If we are not in our office, call us at 208-459-5151. Please remember to call 911 first if there is an emergency.

  • Phone numbers for Campus Safety and the Student Advocates can be found on the back of all College identification cards.
  • Always be alert and aware of your surroundings and show a confident attitude.
  • All suspicious activity should be reported to the Campus Safety Department (ext. 5151 or 208-459-5151) on-campus or Caldwell Police Dispatch (208-454-7531) off-campus. Timely reports of information make it easier for the police to gather critical evidence and increase the odds of recovering stolen property and successfully prosecuting a criminal.
  • Avoid walking alone at night. Walk with a group or call Campus Safety for an escort. If you must walk alone please make sure to use well-lighted paths and sidewalks and take the most direct route.
  • Keep your room and vehicle doors locked. Do not prop open residence doors, even when going to the shower – this is an invitation for trespassers.
  • Do not lend your keys or ID card, even to your friends. Not everyone will take the same care as you.
  • Report all maintenance problems (broken locks, windows, etc.) to your RA immediately.
  • Attend Security Awareness programs held on campus for valuable information and safety tips.
  • Use crosswalks and pedestrian crossing signals to safely cross streets.
  • Be aware of campus and local crime trends. You are your best protection. Educate yourself.

The College of Idaho requires all student and employee vehicles to display a valid parking permit when on campus. Parking permits are available online and can be paid via credit card or in-person payment to Campus Safety.

Student Parking

Planning on bringing a vehicle with you to campus? You’ll need to purchase a student parking permit. Student parking permits are $95 and allow you to park in any of the campus lots. Student permits are issued within one month of the school year starting and are valid for the academic year. Once you receive your parking permit place it on the back window of your vehicle. If you need to bring a different vehicle, or your permit becomes damaged or lost, please contact Campus Safety prior to parking on campus. Parking permits are required to park in any campus parking lots, including the Activities Center and McCain lots.

Any student with three tickets or more will have their account frozen, which means the student will be unable to register for classes until any outstanding fines are paid. Parking citations may be paid by credit card at Campus Safety or by credit card or other means at the Business Office. Parking fines are issued to those who fail to purchase a permit, violate fire lane or reserved space restrictions, or park in handicapped spaces without the appropriate state-issued placard or license plates. You are not allowed to register for classes until any outstanding fines are paid. Fines are $50 for most violations, $75 for fire-lane violations, and $250 for parking in a handicap-accessible space. Visitor parking by Cruzen-Murray Library is for Admissions visitors only, and an Admissions visitor pass is required to park there. This is enforced 24/7 and this is a tow-zone.

Employee Parking

Employees must register for a permit online but do not have to pay for a permit. Employee permits are valid for Jewett, McCain and JAAC parking lots. Employee permits are issued within one month of the school year starting and are valid for multiple years. Once you receive your parking permit place it on the back window of your vehicle. If you need to bring a different vehicle, or your permit becomes damaged or lost, please contact Campus Safety prior to parking on campus.

Visitor Parking

As noted above, the visitor’s parking section in the Hayman parking lot, next to Cruzen-Murray Library, is for admissions visitors only. All others who park there will be ticketed and may be towed.  Weekend student parking is allowed in the visitor spaces but cars parked there after 6:00 pm on Sunday are subject to being ticketed. Repeat offenders will be towed. Other visitor parking is available in the lot next to the J.A. Albertson Activities Center on the west side of campus. View the campus map here.
