CALDWELL, Idaho — September 22, 2026 — The College of Idaho has established the Harry Bettis Scholarship, a new award created for students from Idaho’s rural and small-town communities, the college announced today.
Named for longtime College of Idaho supporter Harry Bettis, the scholarship is designed to remove barriers for students who grew up far from a college campus — those who spent early mornings on the farm, drove long distances to school, or grew up in communities where four-year degrees aren’t the default path.
“Rural students bring a work ethic and a perspective that make our campus stronger,” said Austin Basterrechea, VP Admissions. “The Harry Bettis Scholarship is our way of making sure that where a student grew up does not limit their opportunity to attend The College of Idaho.”
Award amounts are determined individually based on each student’s financial need. The scholarship is open to incoming and transfer students from rural Idaho communities who are admitted to The College of Idaho and complete the FAFSA.
How to apply:
- Apply for admission to The College of Idaho
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Submit the scholarship application through the College’s Financial Aid office
