Mental Health Counseling

At the Health & Wellness Center, we know that college life can bring excitement, challenge, and moments of uncertainty. Our Counseling Services are here to support students through it all. Whether you’re navigating stress, facing personal or academic concerns, or simply wanting someone to talk to, our licensed counselors offer a safe, welcoming, and confidential space to explore your experiences.

We take a whole-person approach to wellness and partner with students to build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and foster personal growth. No concern is too big or too small—if it matters to you, it matters to us.

Students can connect with us for individual counseling, group support, crisis resources, and referrals when specialized care is needed. Our goal is to ensure you feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout your time on campus.

If you have questions, are unsure where to start, or think counseling might help, reach out—we’re here to walk alongside you.

The Sensory Room is a calming, student-centered and designed space in the Health & Wellness Center for relaxation, quiet study, stress relief, and sensory support. This immersive, multisensory environment helps students unwind, refocus, and regulate their emotions—whether they’re navigating stress, anxiety, sensory processing needs, or simply looking for a peaceful break in their day.

Hours & Access

The Sensory Room is located in the Health and Wellness Center, and is typically open Monday–Friday from 9am to 5pm. No appointment is needed during these hours, though the room may occasionally be closed for counseling sessions or when used as a private decompression space during difficult situations. If you’d like to visit outside regular hours, please email hwc@collegeofidaho.edu. The Wellness Center front desk staff can also assist you anytime with room access.

Why Use a Sensory Room?

Sensory Rooms offer a safe, supportive environment where students can engage with sensory tools—such as calming lights, textures, sounds, and movement—to improve focus, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. A well-designed sensory space can help improve concentration, support relaxation, boost coordination, enhance creativity, and provide a safe environment for self-expression. Although traditionally designed for children, research shows that people of all ages benefit from sensory environments, especially when managing:

  • Stress or anxiety
  • Overstimulation or overwhelm
  • Sensory integration needs
  • Emotional regulation
  • Focus and concentration challenges
  • Neurodiversity-related processing needs
Health-Related Transportation

The Health & Wellness Center (HWC) helps students access medical and mental health care by offering guidance and resources to overcome transportation barriers. These resources ensure students can safely reach the care they need while supporting their overall well-being.

Available Transportation Options

  • Valley Regional Transit – VRT On-Demand
  • Students can book flexible, affordable rides through the VRT Booking App, online, or by phone. Campus Safety manages all transit partnerships, including discounted or free public transportation passes.

Community Support

Host Families for international students may assist with transportation when appropriate and available.

Emergency Transport

All medical or mental health emergencies must be transported by emergency services, including EMTs or Victory Transport.

College Transportation Guidelines

  • Students should not be transported across state lines.
  • Employees should not transport students in personal vehicles.
  • For non-emergency medical needs, students may use:
  • Their own transportation or rides from friends/family
  • A campus-owned vehicle driven by Campus Safety or an authorized employee
  • Uber Health, a HIPAA-compliant option arranged through the HWC or Campus Safety
  • Victory EMS & Medical Transportation for crisis-related or specialized transport
Our Commitment to Confidentiality

The Health and Wellness Center takes your privacy very seriously. We are dedicated to providing a safe, private, and supportive environment for all students built on a foundation of confidentiality. Your health and well-being are our highest priorities, and all staff and student employees follow strict confidentiality standards to protect your personal information.

Any records from counseling or medical visits are kept separate from academic files and are not shared with faculty, staff, parents, or others without your explicit written permission, except in rare situations required by law or to ensure safety.

If you need copies of your records or would like information shared with another provider, please contact us at hwc@collegeofidaho.edu. We’re here to help guide you through the release-of-information process.
